To complete a melody of not more than 16 bars for a specific instrument, the opening of which is given, the composition of a melody to given words and to write a melody above or below a given melody or analyse the rhythmic structure and phrasing of a melody. Performance directions relating to tempo, dynamics and articulation will be required.  Modulation to related keys will be required.

To harmonise a melody or bass in four-part vocal writing, in short score including modulation, the use of all triads and the chord of the dominant 7th, and their Inversions, accented and unaccented passing notes, upper and lower auxiliaries, suspensions and anticipations.

To answer questions on musical form and textures, and types of compositions for voices and instruments. To know the basic principles of sound production of musical instruments, to re-write given passages as they would sound on transposing instruments and to know the layout of the normal orchestral score.
