NEW BCA SYLLABUS

The BCA Governing Council is pleased to announce the release of a NEW BCA SYLLABUS in October 2005 – this contains the new schedule of pieces effective from January 2006.  The current schedule maybe used until July 2006 ONLY (ie either schedules may be used from January to July)

The new syllabus contains:

bullet Various amendments to the scale requirements in the lower grades to accommodate the difficulties of the various sized instruments for beginners.
bullet Amendments to the pieces of each list.
bullet The introduction of a new RECITAL examination extending the demands of grade 8 (and pre Diploma). The award being Gold, Silver or Bronze.
bullet A new structure of all BCA Diplomas including the abolition of the General Music Knowledge theory paper and Aural Dictation but the introduction of a pre requisite of passing Grade 8 theory.

There are no amendments to the Aural Tests requirements in graded examinations and only small amendments to the Sight Reading requirements in the higher grade examinations. The Council also welcomes the release of new publications of specimen Aural tests with accompanying CDs.

The new syllabus will be sent free of charge to all paid up members of the ATA as soon as available – or will be available from the secretariat at a cost of £3 (incl P & P)
